Results 1st Quarter 2005
Data Respons ASA, who delivers Embedded Solutions, registered a turnover of NOK 49.5 million in the first quarter of 2005. This represents a fall off of 4.1 percent compared to the same quarter last year. This negative development was due to a noticeably lower turnover in Denmark, whilst there was growth in both Sweden and Norway. Fluctuations between quarters are normal in Denmark, but there are no changes in customer structure and the company is expecting a positive development in 2005. At the end of the period, the company's order reserve was NOK 119 million as compared to 86 million at the end of the previous year. The order reserve for the same period last year was NOK 75 million.
-The economy in the Nordic market is good. The record high order reserve indicates that we will experience growth in the first half of the year compared with the first half of 2004. There is, however, no doubt that major solution deliveries make Data Respons vulnerable to considerable fluctuations from quarter to quarter. We prefer therefore to look at the year as a whole and plan accordingly, says Ragnvaldsen.
The operating result (EBITDA) for the quarter showed NOK 0.8 million, against NOK 2.6 million for the same period last year. Profit before taxes was NOK 0.2 million, compared with NOK 1.8 million in the first quarter of 2004.
Development in the various countries
In Norway, Data Respons had an operating revenue of NOK 29.4 million (NOK 25.8 million in the first quarter 2004). The operating result (EBITDA) for the period was NOK 3.0 million. In Denmark operating revenue amounted to NOK 10.3 million (15.6) and the operating result NOK -0.5 million. In Sweden operating revenue amounted to NOK 8.3 million (8.1) and the operating result NOK 0.1 million. In Finland, the top line was NOK 1.9 million (2.3) and the operating result was zero. Data Respons in Germany started officially in this period but is not as yet defined as an independent report segment.
Data Respons divides turnover into three core business areas: solutions, products and services. The positive trend regarding the turnover towards solutions continues. This is in line with the company's declared strategy. Solutions accounted for 56 percent of the total turnover in the first quarter, products for 33 percent and services for 11 percent.
- Our main focus in 2005 is two-part: firstly to promote growth and profitability by concentrating on major solution customers; secondly to develop and make a success of the new business in Germany. In this market there are many customers with great potential for growth within the product and solutions segment, reports Ragnvaldsen.
